"Out of Here" Producer Talks
OLP
by Rob (aka TrustNoOne)
September 2002
Rob asked Sam Siciliano who directed the "Out Of Here"
video!! some
questions regarding Our Lady Peace. The following is the contents
of the conversation in point form.
- His name is Sam Siciliano and he produced, directed, and edited the
video "Out Of Here".
-At the time the video was made, OLP were still called "As If".
- He approached Raine (who at that time was still named Mike) and Mike
Turner. They weren't too receptive to the idea of the video until Sam
told them that he would pay for the whole thing himself.
- Sam made the video for his fourth year film project. He figured it
would help get him in the door somewhere. Despite the rumour (including
what you have on your site that the video was for Duncan's film class)
he said Duncan had nothing to do with it and was no where near the band
at the time.
-The video was filmed at Sam's Father's business- Bloor Railings, in
Oshawa.
- It was filmed "on the coldest day of the year" in February of 1992.
- It took one day to film, and when the band saw how organized Sam was
and how many fellow students he had helping him- the band was "extremely
impressed".
- Since all the editing time was free at Ryerson, it didn't really cost
much to film. If he had to guess, it would be between $500 and $1000
bucks.
-Jim Newell (the drummer) was the only member that sat with Sam during
the editing.
-The only guy behind the scenes that kind of made it anywhere was his
camera man- Scott Griffin. He's the Dynamic Mutual Funds guy. You've
probably seen his commercial a million times, you know the guy with no
shirt on, just wears pants and a tie- he was the camera man for the
video shoot. And Jim Newell is making wedding videos now. As for Sam,
he worked for a few production companies and decided that it wasn't for
him. He said there were "way too many asses to kiss".
