Enlisting producer Bob Rock, Our Lady Peace have tried to take a simpler, more aggressive new direction on Gravity, cutting tracks with guitars used by Metallica and the Cult and an amp used by Pete Townsend. Unfortunately, the ghosts in the machines failed to take possession. Yes, it's more aggressive and straightforward than the more mellow and experimental Spiritual Machines, closer in feel to earlier OLP recordings. Raine Maida continues to deliver earnest, cheesy lyrics like "I miss your purple hair. I miss the way you taste." That said, the near-prog All For You isn't bad, nor is the anthem-like We Are All Innocent. If you've heard and enjoyed the single Somewhere Out There, you'll probably enjoy the rest of their radio-friendly post-grunge guitar rock.
