Contests

Contest 1

Contest ended October 8, 1998
In our First Contest we had fans answer the question, "Why should YOU be the one to receive the Spurt CD?"   We had a hard time determining the winner.  After breaking it down to a few finalists, we chose what we felt was the best.  Thanx for all the great ideas.

Spurt CD
with Hope Live

The winning entry was as follows,

When I was devising a way to answer this question, I realized that a lot of other people will probably answer by saying they are: Our Lady Peace's "number one fan" and "I can't live without it"  I can't say I am OLP's number one fan, I know I am not the only person who can go a day without a OLP "fix", whether it be a song or on the radio or watching Muchmusic's Spotlights again (and again!)  I also know I am not the only one with a shrine in their room, or can honestly say they can sing every word of every OLP song and cover.  Despite these things, I do have a reason why I should receive the Spurt CD, and it can easily be explained in one of my concert experiences:

It was January 17th, The Toronto (Maple Leaf Gardens) Show, the concert was going great, it was easily (already) the best night of my life.  Then I heard it.  Jeremy started and then Mike and Duncan joined in, it was the beginning of Hope.  Suddenly, I started to shake, my knees turned rubbery and I thought I would have to sit down, but I forced myself to stay standing. I couldn't believe I was only 100 feet from Our Lady Peace, while they sang Hope.  I started to cry.  Me, the strong one of my circle of friends, crying, it was unheard of.  Finally, I regained control, shook myself out of my shocked silence and started to sing along:

"My God she said!  My God he said..."

See, Hope is my favorite song, it reaches in and touches me in that place that only Our Lady Peace can go near.  I love every aspect of the song, from the quiet symbol and guitar to Raine howling "My God!"
Is it me or am I starting to sound like those "other people"?
I never thought I could get a copy of Hope live, to be able to re-live that moment during the concert, that is until I saw this.  I hope (unintentional) I gave you the reasons you need to include me in the draw.

Love,
Theresa

Great Work Theresa.  You obviously put a lot of thought into your letter!
