What a concert!
I've been waiting so long for OLP to come to Arizona. I moved here 3 and a
half years ago from Toronto. OLP had about 3 or 4 concerts here, but I never
got a chance to see them. This was my first time seeing them in Arizona. I've
seen them at the Toronto SARS Concert and at the MMVAs before. I wore all white
and red. I looked like I was going to a "White Stripes" concert. I brought a
small 9 inch long Canadian flag with me.
I went with my friend Patrick, who was there just for the kicks. There were no
seats, general admission. Two people were in front of me, so I was like "3rd
row". Great view. First to stage was Shinedown. I've never heard of them
before, but they weren't that bad. Hard rock. Tried to pump up the crowd, but
didn't do that well. They played around 6 songs I believe and then Seether got
on stage. The lead singer walked out smoking a cigarette. I really liked them.
I've always wanted their album, but I've never got a chance to pick it up. I
only knew one song (Fine Again), and they closed off by singing "You Know You're
Right" by Nirvana. The lead singer sort of sounded like Cobain. It was crazy.
The crowd seemed to enjoyed them a lot.
Our Lady Peace was next. Before they came out, I met some really nice guys
there who was also there to see OLP. I didn't know there were so many OLP fans
here. I haven't met anyone who knew about them until tonight. I wanted to
start an OLP chant, but Patrick wouldn't let me. He said that I wouldn't want
people to think I'm a the crazy obsessive fan. OLP came out quickly and
quietly. I waved my Canadian flag around like a madwoman. I'm pretty damn sure
that Raine saw me holding up the flag, and I think he smiled at me, but I could
be wrong! Some guy filled in for Duncan. I thought I saw him earlier, but it
was some roadie guy who looks like him. "All For You" and "Whatever" totally
pumped up the crowd, and the audience sang along to "Superman"s Dead". Jeremy
took off his shirt and glasses during that song. Because of the heat, Raine
started unbuttoning his shirt half way down and eventually unbuttoned all of
them. Picture this: khaki shirt and pants, shirt wide open, hot, sweaty, and
red Hawaiian flowery boxers! ANYWAYS! A lot of people sang along to "Innocent"
and I thought the two new songs were greatttt! I heard "Walking In Circles"
once at the Pre-MMVAs. During that song, Raine told everyone to stand up or he
would go out there and make them, and that's exactly what he did. He walked
around the amphitheatre pulling people up making them stand. Patrick picked me
up to get a better look. There were a few girls that chased after him, but he
just kept on walking. I was at the front so I couldn't leave my spot. The
crowd was sooo into them! Many "Our Lady Peace" chants started in between
songs. During "The Birdman", Steve did an awesome solo and Raine was grabbing
onto his sleeve. Right when the solo ended, Raine just fell straight to the
ground. He laid there singing until he had to get up and get his guitar for
"Clumsy". Lots of us just waved our hands in the air and sang out loud. Raine
looked impressed. That was my favourite song to sing along to. Everyone
obviously enjoyed "Somewhere Out There" and "Starseed" was a great song to end
their show with. At the end, Raine went to the barricade and touched a bunch of
fans' hands. Patrick picked me up, but damn my short hands!!! I couldn't reach
to him. Steve threw a bottle of water to the chick in front of me, and another
chick in front of me got their set list, and the guys I was talking to got
Jeremy drum stick! Ughh.. just my luck. I can never get anything! The set
only lasted a little bit over an hour, but WOW they were amazing!
3 Doors Down came up after OLP. I saw some of the guys leave after OLP. Looked
like most of the people there were HUGE 3 Doors Down fans. The crowd went crazy
for them. I only knew two songs, and stood there throughout the whole thing.
They did a great job though, but I'm just not that into them. I saw Jeremy
watching them from the side. I screamed out to him and waved my flag, but he
obviously couldn't hear me. The drummer did a crazy solo. It was just amazing.
The guys left at the end, but came back out for an encore when the crowd
started chanting their name, so they sang one more song and left. After that,
everyone screamed for 3 Doors Down. While me and a few guys screamed for Our
Lady Peace, but I doubt anyone even heard us..
Overall, I had a GREAT time. It was around 103 Degrees F and every act was
sweating like crazy and made some comment about the hot weather. We all thought
that was funny because 103F is actually really nice weather for us. OLP are
AMAZING! I bought an OLP poster for 10 bucks. My very first OLP poster and the
first one I've seen. I didn't see any OLP hoodies that I've heard about. I
also got the Seether CD for 10 bucks. I wanted to stay after the concert and
wait outside to try to catch OLP walking out. I knew they were still in the
venue, but I didn't want to keep Patrick waiting, so we left, maybe next time!
Hope they come back soon.
