Looks like
OLP's show in Amherst will in fact be held indoors. So if you are
planning on attending. Don't forget your $10.00 American. The
following note was added to the Springfest
2000 website:
The University
@ Buffalo's Undergraduate Student Association and University Union Activities
Board are pleased to present Spring Fest 2000 on April 29, 2000 @ 4PM.
Co-Headlining are Method Man/Redman, and Our Lady Peace.
Due to the weird
weather Buffalo is having. The Primary location has been changed to Alumni
because of the frequent cold weather and the ground being too wet for the
stage to be set up.

Also go to Band

the festival and Band BBS that you should read before making your
requests:
BAND
BBS
Up to date,
we have information that there will be more than 100 acts appearing at
the Fuji Rock Festival '00 this year. But at this stage only a few have
been confirmed yet. So why not make suggestions to the organizer to approach
your favorite artist or band to participate? There are thousands of great
artists on this planet, but only a few of those get a chance to be exposed
in the mass media. Within those who are not that lucky, there just might
be the next Superstars. Make any suggestions that you think might make
a better festival, not only to the organizers but also the fujirockers
about these hidden talented. "This BBS is born out of this idea!"
Please make
sure that you clearly name only one artist in one go and your e-mail address,
as they might contact you to give details about the artist and his/her/their
music, in more than 100 words but less then 400. If one does not fulfill
the conditions. the message will be deleted.
For the first
300 people to post a message here, there will be a gift of a 15 framed
holographic card sticker of Fuji Rock Festival '00. You will need to send
us a self addressed and stamped envelope. The details will be e-mailed
to you, should your choice be of any interest.
Also, just in
case your dream to slot your favorite act for the Festival comes true,
1 couple could win a competition to get a back stage pass to meet the act.
Obviously you would have to be on the site, "which means a ticket holder,"
for this competition, but at this stage we cannot yet guarantee that all
of the acts would accept this, but the organizers have agreed to do their
best

SUMMERSAULT
2000
Our Lady Peace
has announced the Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins will join them as
headliners for this year's installment of the Summersault music festival.
Promoters for the tour say actual dates, venues and bands that will be
performing at the shows are yet to be confirmed, but that Summersault will
take place in August, and play venues across the country. OLP was recently
forced to cancel five U.S. shows when bassist Duncan Coutts severely jammed
and sprained his left wrist during a snowboarding accident. However, the
band does not expect the injury will affect any plans for the Summersault
tour. Tune into Fax
on the weekend for a possible repeat. Thanks to dabek on the CC.

See OLP.com
for a crack from Raine for news on Summersault 2000. So far the big
bands that have signed are The Smashing Pumpkins (guess they rearranged
their schedule so they could do the show. Last we heard in an interview
with Billy Corgan on Edge 102, they were going to be touring and couldn't
perform at Summersault) and The Foo Fighters! Raine mentions
that the fesitival will cross Canada starting in Vancouver and ending in
Halifax.
Here is the
official press release taken from OLP.com:
National August
tour confirmed with the Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters
(TORONTO) The
members of Our Lady Peace are pleased to announce that their vision to
take the multi-band festival Summersault to a national stage has been realized.
Our Lady Peace's Summersault 2000 will roll across Canada from Vancouver
to Halifax in August of 2000. Confirmed already to join Our Lady Peace
on this national tour are The Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters. Many
more guests will be confirmed in the upcoming weeks; all ticketing, routing
and venue information for this tour, presented by Our Lady Peace with House
Of Blues Canada, is still to be announced.
Our Lady Peace
conceived Summersault in 1998 as a multi-artist festival to bring together
some of their favourite Canadian and international artists on one stage.
The first Summersault consisted of five shows with such acts as Garbage,
Crystal Method, Sloan, Hayden, Esthero and I Mother Earth sharing the stage
with OLP.
"This news is
so exciting for me and the rest of the band as we've been working on this
for the last 4 or 5 months," said Our Lady Peace vocalist Raine Maida.
"Taking this tour nationally was our plan from the beginning, and we always
wanted to bring on board friends of ours and bands that we're completely
impressed by musically. With the Pumpkins and Foo Fighters signed up --
and we can't wait to confirm the rest of the bands as well -- it's going
to be a great day of music."
Fans are encouraged
to log onto the band's official website at www.ourladypeace.com as more
details will be announced shortly for Summersault 2000.

Just in from
Stacy at ClumsyCongress.com,
Visit www.ourladypeace.com
first thing tomorrow morning for a very special crack from Raine about
Summersault 2000!
Unfortunately
Duncan Coutts severely jammed and sprained his left wrist due to a snowboarding
accident yesterday. This will affect a couple of dates that the band
had planned to play in the states:
Cleveland,
OH - April 13
Indiana,
PA - April 14
Pittsburgh,
PA - April 15
Joplin,
MO - April 17
Nashville,
TN - April 18
The band is
quite upset about the situation and apologizes to the fans that were planning
to attend the concerts.
Our Lady Peace
album title comes in handy when reviewing sushi restarurants!!! While
Our Lady Peace believe that "Happiness is Not a Fish that you can
Catch," restaurant critics disagree. A recent restaurant review in
the Waterloo
Imprint, states that "Happiness is a Fish that you can Catch, It is
a Cold Dead Fish on Rice."
Thanks to all
your votes, OLP have climbed 11 spots from #43 to #32 on the Fuji
Rocker's Poll. Keep showing your support! Please note:
Be sure to vote for "OUR LADY PEACE" with all capitals as this is the one
with the most votes and has the best chance of moving them to the top!.
There is also "Our Lady Peace" which is ranked 150, "Our lady peace" which
is ranked 243 and "Our Lady Peace Rules" ranked 291. We don't understand
why there are 4 separate ways that the name is written but we do know that
the one with capitals has the best chance of making OLP #1! What
are you waiting for? Vote now!

Last night
Our Lady Peace played a private show at the University of Waterloo's Federation
Hall (19+ on-campus club). The show was a party put on by a video
networking company called Pixstream.
The company gave tickets out to 2nd & 3rd year students in Engineering
and Mathematics. We contacted the company and the school, and were
told it was a private event and that there was no way to get tickets as
it was a full house. Please don't hate us for not posting this before-hand,
but we were told by both the company and Sony not to release the information
because they wanted to keep it private. And we had to respect their
wishes.
However, we
couldn't resist. We took the trip to Waterloo and were treated to
tickets by a kind gentleman standing at the front of the venue. They were
strict at the door and did not allow cameras. We did however get
a Neckpass and two free drink
tickets each on entry. And after the show we snagged a
Setlist.
The set they played was actually a little different than the setlist.
They did not perform OMA, and blended Carnival into Teardrop.
Thanks to Ryan
and Kevin for the information, the guy who ran around to find a second
ticket for us, and the Band for one of our all time favourite shows.
And a special thanks to Mike for throwing us a bottle of water after noticing
how thirsty we were from all our singing. We needed it! :-)

about OLP playing Atlanta's Music Midtown Festival in May. Thanks to OLPKID
on the CC for the scoop.
There is a small
blurb in What magazine about Summersault and the possibility of a new album.
Here is what Raine had to say on January 30: "I wouldn't mind trying to
get into the studio in the end of May for a couple of months. We
want to do Summersault, but if we could start a record before Summersault-even
if we have to keep touring Happiness until the end of the year but have
a record done-it would be ideal" Thanks to iluvolp on the CC for the update!

Update on the
whole Smashing Pumpkins discussion on the Corgan Comment and the possible
Summer Tour with OLP.
Billy Corgan
was on The Edge in Toronto earlier yesterday, and they asked him about
the bad comment back in 1998 on MuchMusic. Can't remember exactly what
he said, but he covered his tracks. Something like, it was just a
kick in their shins, and that even though he feels that he hears an influence
of SP in earlier OLP, they have developed into their own, and have a great
new sound.
They are repeating
the interview Monday March 13 sometime between 6-8 pm EST on Live In Toronto
on 102.1 The Edge. If you are out of the broadcast area, you can
listen to it on The Edge's Live Feed off their website: http://www.edge102.com.
Please note:
Billy Corgan has stated that the Smashing Pumpkins will not be touring
with Our Lady Peace on the Summersault Tour nor will they be taking part
in Edgefest.

Just in from
Sony's Buzzwords,
OUR LADY
PEACE -- SCALED
Having just
completed a sold-out arena tour of Canada, Our Lady Peace will return to the
States for another series of the band's critically-acclaimed "Scaled" shows
beginning March 13 in Cambridge, Massachusetts (see itinerary following).
Following the "Scaled" tour, the Toronto-based rock band will perform full-on
electric sets at colleges, clubs, and radio shows.
Our Lady Peace
inaugurated the "Scaled" concept in January 2000 with a series small-scale
"acoustic" gigs in intimate venues. Each of the four members of OLP--Raine
Maida (vocals), Mike Turner (guitar), Jeremy Taggart (drums), Duncan Coutts (bass)--has
created a short film that runs during the band's performances.
During the "Scaled" shows, OLP has been taking questions from the audience.
"We wanted to
interact with our real fans and allow them to see us in a new light," said
Raine Maida before launching the first "Scaled" shows. "At the same time,
these shows give us the opportunity to be more up-close, intimate, and personal."
Songs from Happiness...
Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch (OLP's third album, it debuted at
#1 on the group's native Canadian sales charts, ahead of Nine Inch Nails, Chris
Cornell, Tori Amos and other first week debuts), as well as the band's biggest
hits and some surprising cover songs, are being featured in the "Scaled" shows.
Happiness... is the second Our Lady Peace album to debut at the top of the
Canadian sales charts. The band's second album, Clumsy, which
contained the
U.S. Top 5 Modern Rock tracks "Superman's Dead" and "Clumsy," is rapidly approaching
the RIAA platinum mark in the U.S. "One Man Army," the first single
from Happiness... Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch, has continued OLP's success
on alternative radio and went Top 10 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks.
"Is Anybody Home?"," the new single from Happiness..., is currently climbing the
Billboard Modern Rock Track chart.
The first round
of "Scaled" performances were a huge success with the band's fans and the
pop music press: "...with crisp vocals and acoustic twang taking the forefront,
Our Lady Peace put on an exhibition of diversity," wrote Marc Weinroth in
the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel (January 14, 2000), "The head-banging
was nonexistent, but it wasn't missed. In its place, Maida shone
brighter than
the hundred or so candles that lined the ballroom, benefiting from the acoustic
atmosphere. On 'Lying Awake' and the new single, 'Is Anybody Home?,' both
from the band's latest album, 'Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch,' Maida
used his voice as an instrument, manipulating and contorting it to make high-pitched
noises in the same way that Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello distorts
his guitar to sound like a harmonica....the band's concept for an evening
of intimate acoustic renditions of its songs was both original and
intriguing...."
"Opening with 'Naveed,' OLP set the standard for the rest of the night,"
penned Bill Snyder in the Southern Methodist University Daily Campus.
"Mike Turner's lead guitar was flawless.... Singer Raine Maida stretched the
limits of his already distinctive voice throughout the night, much to the appreciation
of the crowd."
MEDIA
PRAISE
The radio stations
who'd sponsored the "Scaled" shows were equally enthusiastic.
Allan Fee, KPNT,
St. Louis, Missouri: "Breathtakingly unbelievable. Seriously -- they're
great songwriters and excellent musicians. We were blown away by their 'Scaled'
performance."
John O'Connell
(Operations Manager/Program Director), WPBZ, Palm Beach: "We recorded the
entire live performance from the Ballroom and played it back for our listeners
after the show. The requests to hear it again were so huge that we had to play
it again the next morning. 'Is Anybody Home?' has been in power rotation ever
since with top 5 requests every day."
Darlyn (APD),
WKRO, Daytona Beach: "The line to get autographs after their performance
was out of control. 'Is Anybody Home?' immediately went into power rotation after
the show . The requests are huge."
Dave Stewart,
Operations Manager, KKND, New Orleans: "Fantastic Show! Only a band with this
talent level could pull it off."
Steve Robison
(APD/KTBZ/Houston): "One Word: Magical!"

Thanks to our
email pal Eri, we have some interesting news for Japanese fans:
* "Happiness..."
will be released on March 8, 2000 with 2 bonus tracks (Needle and the Damage
Done and Clumsy).
* "Happiness..."
has been getting positive feedback in Japanese magazines lately.
The most recent review states "it is really strange that OLP have not recieved
much attention in Japan until now, since they are such a great band."
The critic also complimented the band on their sound, lyrics and Raine's
voice.
*
Ever hear of the Fuji Rock Festival? Well it is similar to the UK's
Glastenbury Festival and has hosted such bands as Limp Bizkit, Rage Against
the Machine, Blur and the Chemical Brothers, just to mention a few. This
year, the promoters are asking for the public's help in deciding which
bands should play. So far, OLP have received 3 votes. Even
if we can't go to the festival, let's show them our support by giving them
our votes as well! (We hope to have a website for you to go to and vote
soon!)
In other news,
there are rumours floating around that OLP may be playing at the Commodore
Ballroom in Vancouver, BC on either March 26 or 31. As more info

there is now 2 UK OLP sites! First there is Rick's "United
Kingdom of OLP" and now Claire's new European site, called "Pop

Speaking of
Claire's
new site, she has mentioned in her news section that OLP were featured
in two European Magazines. In the March 2000 edition of Rock Sound,
the band is praised very highly. Unfortunately, in Melody Maker,
"Happiness..." is reviewed and only receives a 1 1/2 out of 5. If
anyone knows of any website links for these magazines, please let us know.
Thanks again to Claire for this news!

These SCALED
RESPONSES just in from Columbia's Daily Dish:
Our Lady Peace
recently completed "Scaled," a series of "acoustic" shows staged in intimate
club settings across the U.S. Here's how some of the sponsoring radio stations
responded to OLP's performances:
Allan Fee,
KPNT, St. Louis, Missouri:
"Breathtakingly
unbelievable. These guys are more than just a Canadian band. They blow away
Anne Murray. Seriously -- they're great songwriters and excellent musicians.
We were blown away by their 'Scaled' performance."
John O'Connell
(Operations Manager/Program Director), WPBZ, Palm Beach: "We recorded
the entire live performance from the Ballroom and played it back for our listeners
after the show. The requests to hear it again were so huge that we had
to play it again the next morning. 'Is Anybody Home?' has been in power rotation
ever since with top 5 requests every day."
Darlyn (APD),
WKRO, Daytona Beach:
"OLP reaffirmed
themselves with our listeners after seeing them play live. The line to get
autographs after their performance was out of control. 'Is Anybody Home?' immediately
went into power rotation after the show . The requests are huge."
Dave Stewart,
Operations Manager, KKND, New Orleans:
"Fantastic
Show! Only a band with this talent level could pull it off."

Our Lady
Peace OLP AT ACC
Our Lady Peace
have begun their Canadian tour which brought them to Toronto's Air Canada
Centre last night (Feb 1). The band performed songs from their new album,
"Happiness Is Not A Fish (That) You Can Catch", in front of some 10,000

Stereophonics

The opening

on the other side of the Atlantic, having just garnered 2 nominations in

one! We found the magazine's website, but the article with Raine

in a country that they barely wet their feet in! :-)

The Juno
Nominations have been announced!!!
OLP have been
nominated in the categories of Best Group and Best Rock Album. Their Producer,
Arnold Lanni has also been nominated for Best Producer for "One Man
Army" and "Is Anybody Home?"
This OUR LADY
PEACE UPDATE courtesy of Columbia Records:
In the wake
of the Juno Award nominations, Our Lady Peace has any number of reasons
to celebrate. The group's single, "Is Anybody Home," is the #4 Rock/Alternative
record in Canada while "Happiness...
Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch" is the #1 Rock/Alternative album in Canada
according to SoundScan.
Also, in more
Our Lady Peace news, the group began their "The World's A Blister" Canadian
tour on Saturday, January 29, and played last night, February 2, at the
Air Canada Centre in their
hometown of
Toronto. The concert had the Toronto Sun raving:
"Occasionally,
a concert is more remarkable for what didn't happen than what did.
"And, while
there was little doubting Our Lady Peace's capabilities at the Air Canada
Centre last night, it was surprising when they kicked off their 90-minute
set the old fashioned way: No films, no pre-taped musical
passages, not even a surefire hit to get the 10,000-strong crowd on its
collective feet.
"The band simply
took the stage and started, and promptly hit a stride that they wouldn't
lose for the entire night.
"Granted, it
was exactly two years ago, with a show at Maple Leaf Gardens, that OLP
proved they could fill an arena with a performance as well as with fans,
thereby staking their claim as something other than just another
Can-rock hype machine destined to level off at club-level (not that there's
anything wrong with it).
"What
was different this time was that the group waited until mid-set, a version
of Naveed, to turn on the projector and get artsy with a stream of specially
shot films of old men, clowns and so forth.
"Too late: If
movies were a visually stimulating payoff, turns out OLP worked just as
well in the dark for the first half with a few police lights flashing.
Who knew?
"As overwhelming
audience sing-alongs on hits One Man Army, 4 A.M. and Clumsy showed, the
band weren't about to meet with much resistance.
"Singer Raine
Maida, guitarist Mike Turner, drummer Jeremy Taggart, bassist Duncan Coutts
and auxiliary keyboardist Jamie Edwards upped their sonic scope as much
as possible with an arsenal of electronic gear -- Turner looking ultimately
chilled out in a pair of headphones.
"It wasn't
long before the Can-rock slipped away -- along with reams of Pearl Jam
comparisons that have dogged the band since 1994 -- with a loose version
of Massive Attack's stunning Teardrop.
" A nice touch,
yeah, but OLP, for better or worse, have come into their own."

Verdict
: 4 / 5
Formats:
Four - track
CD ("One Man Army"/ "Starseed"/ "Clumsy"/ "One Man Army ( video)") and
a Limited edition, two - track, seven - inch blue vinyl ("One Man Army"/
"Superman's Dead (live)").
A RECENT support
slot with the Stereophonics will have done this Canadian quartet's prospects
no harm and this big brash anthem is likely to earn them a few more fans
as well. "One Man Army" has 'stadium quality' written all over it: Herculean
rhythms, searing melodies and Raine Maida's acrobatic vocals transform
"One Man Army" from meat - and - two - veg rock into an intelligently crafted
tune that begs repeated listening. Sadly, B - sides "Starseed" and "Clumsy"
- tracks from their previous two albums - stumble down the wrong path,
with none of the same creative energies, and are unable to extricate themselves
from the epithet 'average'. Thanks to Rick from Drown
In A Starseed for this article.
