Even
though "Spiritual Machines" has only been out since December
12th, they managed to slip into the Edge
102's Top 102 CD's of 2000 at Number 15! In
addition, "Happiness..." was released in 1999 but it still
made it on the #40 spot. The results were generated by fan votes!
Great work people!
In
today's edition of the Edmonton Sun,
the paper has included a section on "Noteworthy Moments" of the
year 2000. OLP's recent concert at Dinwoodie Lounge on December 3,
placed 3rd in Edmonton's top 10 concerts of the year. Read the
entire article here.

Read
what Soundscans "Chart Talk" had to say: "Even
though this Toronto group's last two albums went all the way to No. 1,
this album's chances of reaching the top spot seem more remote given the
competition at this time of the year. Nevertheless, this album does give
us something to think about. It's inspired by Ray Kurzweil's "The Age
of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence," a
book that describes the author's belief that the computer will ultimately
dominate our lives and become our teacher and companion. Lead single,
"In Repair" has already charted in the top five of the Rock
chart." Thanks to Rob once again for the heads up!

Yesterday
on Muchmusic's
Rapid Fax: OLP VS. MATT GOOD
When it comes to the end of the year, everyone always does “best of”
material that’s powerful and uplifting. When they got together to talk
about what they wanted to do for the year in review, they thought that
“positive and uplifting” was boring. So all week long, they've decided
to put together the best fights, scraps, rivalries, and trash-talking of
the year, all of which will be compiled into one bad-ass half-hour this
weekend on Fax called “The Battles of 2000”. Yesterday,
Muchmusic kicked it off with one of the best all Canadian rivalries of the
year… Our Lady Peace versus Matthew Good. And don’t forget to visit MuchMusic.com
to vote in their online year end “Battles of 2000” poll. They're
letting you choose the biggest brawl of the new millennium, so head online
and hammer your fist into the keyboard! Thanks

OLP
were on Rapid

running with their small club tour of the country in support of their new
album, Spiritual Machines. Our Chris Nelson had a chance to meet up with
Raine and Jeremy at the tour’s launch in Vancouver to talk about the
concept album, the author that inspired it, and a future where humans are
subservient to computers. OLP play The Factory in Calgary tonight and The
State in Regina tomorrow. Tune in to Rapid Fax on Saturday for a possible

this great article about Our Lady Peace in the National
Post. Thanks to Fabio

We
received an email from a fellow fan named Doug, who states that Raine
mentioned during the concert in Edmonton that they are dedicating
"Thief" to a boy named Robert Taylor from Vernon British
Columbia, that was in a nearly fatal car crash. This is most likely
the same boy that the band was reported to be visiting when they added the
extra show in Vancouver on December 2nd! What a great bunch of guys!
Check
out this week's Soundscan
Charts! OLP aren't doing that great this week on the charts but
wait until their fourth CD, "Spiritual Machines" comes out next
week!!!
December

OLP played an exclusive show at the Vernon Recreation Centre in BC last
night. This show was sponsored by a local college and approximately 700
people were in attendance. The band played for about 2 hours and included
similar setlists to those they performed at the Ontario campuses in
November (see our tour info page for reviews and setlists for two of these
shows). One difference was that OLP covered "Eternal Life" instead of
"Needle and The Damage Done" (which even though it was on the setlist,
they didn't end up playing at the Ontario dates.) . According to some
security guards, the band had decided to do this show because they were in
the area visiting a kid in the hospital who had been in a car accident.
Thanks to Megan who attended the show, for the news!!!
December
2, 2000
These
news highlights in from Julia8110 from the CC who attended the Vancouver
show and press conference last night:
1.
OLP performed 23 songs at the concert which included songs from all four
albums
2.
There is a bonus track on the new CD which lives up to OLP's tradition of
11 tracks per album
3.
OLP will be taking a month break after this small club tour in Canada and
then will be hitting the states for a big tour when their CD is released
there (due to this, March 13, 2001 may not be the correct release date for
their CD) and then they will probably be back in Canada in the Summer.
4.
OLP will not be doing Summersault this year!
Check
out Jam
Showbiz for an article and picture of Raine and Chantal regarding
their upcoming movie appearance. There is even mention of a new song

Last
night was the end of Our Lady Peace's 4
club warm up that took place at schools in Southern Ontario.
Although we knew of these shows, we were strictly asked to not advertise
them as they were all closed shows for students only. We are sorry
we could not post the info, but our hands were tied. We
were lucky enough to be Alumni of one of the schools and have a good
friend invite us as guests to last nights amazing experience! The
night started off great when we stopped into a Tim Horton's Donuts about
20 minutes from Wilfrid Laurier University and were surprised to see Mike
and Jamie in the lineup behind us! We had an interesting
conversation, wished them well at the show, and were on our way.
The performance was even better than the Mohawk experience, although the
crowd pushed us a little harder into the front row barricades. But
the bruises were well worth it. The show ended 2 hours later and we
managed to talk a tech into giving us Raine's setlist. We then
lounged around the school for a while to rest before our drive home.
Then as we were going down the back stairway to the car, we bumped into
Mike and Jamie again! Two times in one night! What Luck!
So we had another interesting conversation about anything and everything,
and had our setlist
signed. It was a great night, and we are really sorry we
couldn't of let more of you know of the event. The club tour is not
far off....so hopefully you will have your own stories to tell real soon!
Pictures of the show will be posted sometime soon as we met some great
people who have offered to contribute!

might not be re-aired. Might have to wait for another airing,
possibly in the MMCountdown.

Sorry
for the lateness of our update, work kept us busy tonight.
The
October 12th web cam will bring
you the following,
*
They have a little fun with Jamie on Drums, and Duncan on Guitar
*
Mike recently checked his gear and mentioned they will be playing live
soon
*
We hear another catchy lyric:
No
matter what we do, no matter what you say,
No
matter what I'm always, right here beside you.
*
The music is on it's way to Atlanta for final mixing
*
Great comment from Mike regarding current progress,
"This is where we are, and thanks for being where YOU are"
*
Jeremy takes the camera and shows us his haircut, and drum set
*
Mentioned Damon Richardson (Danko Jones) came in and demo'd a couple songs
*
Jeremy steps outside and explains how his leg was injured.
He
was walking his dog in a park and was confronted by assailants that wanted
money, when he stated that he had no money, they assaulted him by kicking
him!
*
Jeremy being his humorous self, then "shadow-acted" the event
out, and then treated us to a fake shadow pee! LOL!
October
11, 2000
Today's
webcam at ourladypeace.com is

*
Duncan jams on his bass including The Beatles "Come Together"
*
Mike walks around the house with the camera including a trip outside

We are treated with the "motion sickness and nature cam"

Rumours
are hot and heavy on the Clumsy
Congress these days! Mike Turner dropped into the New Album
discussion room and left two messages. The first read the following,
"The Age of Spiritual Machines; When Computers Exceed Human
Intelligence. by Ray Kurzweil". This post confused the people
of the bulletin board, as it appeared as though he spammed the topic.
After many people questioned his post, he replied with, "The post
wasn't spam. You'll see."
Excerpt
What
relevance does this interesting book have on the New CD? Is it
associated with the title? Is it part of the theme? Or is Mike
just pulling the wool over our eyes? It is for you to decide on this weeks
Our Lady Peace, Fact or Fiction!

"Thief"

Countdown.
October
6, 2000 (Evening)
Don't
forget to check out olp.com's latest Web
Cam, as Mike passes the camera off to Duncan! The following list
summarizes last night's recording,
*
Mike strums around on his guitar the following
Catchy
Lick (sound familiar?)
*
We get a taste of the presidential debate as Duncan and Arnold watch it on
the tube
*
Mike is the coffee making dude of the house
*
Two of the others helping out at the studio are named Angelo and Rob
*
Jamie mixes in some keyboards with some cool guitar riffs for another
Song
Clip.
*
Most interesting news is that Matt Cameron, previously of Soundgarden, but
now drummer for Pearl Jam, will be in the studio helping with some drums
due to Jeremy's recent injury to his leg. Duncan felt sad for
Jeremy, but also excited to play with Matt. Watch for tomorrows web
cam for possible footage.

Looks
like OLP are touring in November!!!! Woo hoo! If you didn't
already know how caring and wonderful the band was before, you will after
reading this post from Mike in the OLP newsgroup (alt.music.ourladypeace):
Hi
Brendan,
I just read your post concerning your upcoming surgery
and wanted to wish you well. I can speak for the other guys very clearly when I say
that we wish you the best, and hope you make a speedy recovery. I'm glad
that you enjoyed the shows at Auburn Hills and Windsor. I remember the
Windsor show really well, I kept starting to have fun but then the sound
bouncing off of the back of the arena would confuse me and I'd end up
pissed off! By the end of the show I was mad as hell because it was the
last show of the tour and I wasn't happy to end it like that. That's why
I threw my favorite guitar (Tom Anderson Hollow T classic) about 40 ft
over the back of my amps. Thank goodness it survived with only a couple
of chips! I hope that you have as vivid memories of the show and that,
in some small way you can think of that rather than dwelling on your
recovery. E-mail me when you're feeling better, we'd love to meet you
at our next show in the area, which should be in November.
Until then, take good care of yourself
Mike Turner
Our Lady Peace
We

October
6, 2000 (Very Early Morning)
We have combined 5 clips of the new song that we felt were audible enough
to record from yesterdays web cam, and recorded them onto one mp3.
They are recordings that can be heard in the background, as Mike tours the
Arnyard. As a fellow OLP fan, I am sure you are dying to get a
taste! The file is 3 megs, so please be patient. Enjoy!
Other
notable tidbits that were revealed during the web cam were,
*
Jeremy has a bum leg due to some recent accident.
*
They were at the Arnyard Studios with Lanni.
*
The intro to the new song includes a shaker device made out of a beer can.
*
Mike emphasizes reading "The Age of Spiritual Machines" by Ray
Kurzweil.
*
Mike also surfed the web to MJGuitar.com
that he's fond of.

October

Today's
news stems from a recent post on the CC from a newly signed up member
using the name (peripheral).
The rumour is,
-
Recent
tour dates that cover Canada's major cities have been announced on
pollstar.com for a Ottawa band named Sully.
The venues (mostly theatres) are too big for a band with their
popularity. Who will headline?
-
Our
Lady Peace has spoken of wanting to do smaller venues this fall.
Theatres would be a good size that they have not explored yet.
-
The
dates start right around the time their first single is to be
released.
Although
there is no proof, only speculation to back up this news, it sounds like a
remote possibility. So we will let you be the judge, Fact or
Fiction? If you want to help find out if this is true or not, call
the theatre in your area and ask if OLP and Sully will be playing.
Then, please contact us so
that we can let others know what is going on with this tour. Thank you!
