November - December 2001

December 28, 2001

The critics of Rolling Stone have compiled their Top 10 Albums of 2001. One of the critics, John Luerrsen, has listed Spiritual Machines as his number 10 pick. He describes the album by calling it "A great roaring rock album, that coulda, shoulda been huge." Thanks to Christal for the news.

According to Dan B, "Life" was unfortunately voted number 5 on the worst Rock videos of the year on Much's Fromage 2001.

Thanks to Soldier665 from the CC for letting us know that "Life" is being featured on NHL 2002 Playstation 2.

We would like to wish a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!!

Just in....Jeremy has posted the following holiday message on the CC.  Thanks to Rick for the scoop,

"Merry Christmas everyone! And Happy Kwanza! And all different holidays!

This has been a pretty wacky year, changes of many kinds have happened.  I'm sure you all have a million questions about this recent situation. All I can say is that these things happen, and it was for the best.  We are making the most important record of our career thus far. I can speak for the others by saying we have not been moved this much by music and inspiration ever, in all the years past. We feel this is a very special record, a big step in the growth of our band.

The new environment (Bob, writing in Maui), has sparked a new lifeblood in the band. We are now able to look to the past and finally learn from it.  We remembered that we are first and foremost, a rock band. Simple as that. So now we shall rock. These tracks are making us want to play live forever.

So on with the good times. Don't worry about us. we're all grown-ups (ALMOST).  All we can do is move on with this flood of inspiration, and hope all of you enjoy what we come up with.  We will see all of you soon. And yes I will be around. I've always been around. I just like to play under the radar sometimes.

Your pal, Jeremy "I saw a PS2 in the background of that Bin Laden tape" Taggart

P.S. Please have the jolliest New Year, but don't get too loaded. And Buy "Word Of Mouf" By Ludacris, It's a tad harsh, but he works the mic almost as good as Big Boi from Outkast."

Watch for OLP's song, "Life" to possibly be included on the soundtrack for the movie, "Men With Brooms," featuring Paul Gross and Leslie Nielson.  According to Jason T, "Life" was played during the preview of the movie.

December 19, 2001 (Morning)

Unfortunately we screwed up somehow and have deleted a group of people who had posts in the 30's for the Mike Pages.  We apologize, and ask that you please check and let us know if yours is missing.  We probably still have your email, but as you can appreciate, there is almost 100 entries and it is hard to track who is now missing.  Sorry for the mix up.

Tune into Muchmusic at 3 pm and 7 pm EST and catch the MMVA Wrap Up.  Hopefully both OLP and Oli Goldsmith will take home all the awards!

December 12, 2001

Today's news is really hard to post.  Just announced on ourladypeace.com:

Our Lady Peace And Guitarist Mike Turner Separate
Citing musical and creative differences, Mike Turner and Our Lady Peace have amicably separated.  Our Lady Peace return from recording a series of songs in Maui, HA with Bob Rock this week. The band plan to return to Hawaii in January for 2-3 weeks to complete recording their fifth album, which will be released in 2002. A replacement guitarist has not been named at this point.

For all the years that we have followed Our Lady Peace, we have seen Mike as the glue that kept the band close to their fans.  He was their ambassador that has such amazing intelligence and personality that draws you into his conversations.  He is 100% genuine when he asks you how you are, and absorbs your reply.  This is made evident after you meet him for the second time, and he remembers your name, and what you spoke about during your first conversation months later.  We wish him the best, and pray that he continues as an artist, and will follow him wherever his career takes him.  With his talent, intelligence, and personality, we are positive he will succeed with whatever he sets out to accomplish.  Hope to see you soon Mike!!

Thanks to the multitude of people who emailed us with this tragic news.

The first journal entries and photos from Canadian doctors working in the field in Afghanistan can now been seen on Warchild.ca. Our Lady Peace perfomed at the Afghan Relief concert and helped raise over one million dollars. Check in with War Child Canada for updates on the humanitarian crisis.

Music Without Borders Update taken from Buzzwords.com:

The positive impact of the 'Music Without Borders' benefit concert - held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON on Sunday, October 21 – is about to be felt. Staged to raise funds to support humanitarian relief surrounding the current conflict in Afghanistan, War Child Canada is heading to Islamabad and Peshawar.

The purpose of the trip is to both visit existing War Child Canada field projects and carry out an emergency humanitarian assessment of refugees and displaced Afghans. Ultimately, the goal is to procure, disburse and supervise the delivery of food, medicines and other urgently needed items for Afghan civilians. All of the above will be purchased with funds raised during

the Music Without Borders Benefit. Artists that donated their services included Our Lady Peace, Alanis Morrisette, The Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies, Choclair and Bruce Cockburn.

Dr. Eric Hoskins, Co-Executive Director of WCC, is leading the mission on behalf of the organization. Hoskins will be sending back photos and field diaries via the Internet on an ongoing basis. These will soon be seen at www.warchild.ca and www.ourladypeace.com.

Said OLP's Raine Maida of his participation, "I became involved with War Child Canada because of its grassroots and very personal approach to helping war-affected children. Through Eric's photo and field diaries we are going to be able to see exactly how the War Child portion of money raised from the Music Without Borders Concert is being put to use."
