January - March 2004

March 30, 2004

Read about Raine's involvement in Avril Lavigne's next CD, "Under My Skin" in this article posted on Canoe.  Maida produced a track called "He Wasn't," along with four others, one of which he co-wrote called "Fall To Pieces." Thanks to Lawrence for the heads up.

Check out a band from Portland, ME called "Even All Out."  They are inspired by OLP's music and even mention them in their bio.  Thanks to Mike for bringing this to our attention.

Another band for you to check out is "autoReverse."  They are influenced by OLP and have covered a few OLP songs at their shows. Thanks to Justin, the Vocalist and Guitarist of the band, for sending us the link.

March 25, 2004 (Evening)

We mentioned before that OLP's new album is expected to be released no later than June. This date was confirmed again yesterday on 89X (CIMX, Windsor/Detroit) after the DJ played OLP, he said that he expects the new album in June.  Thanks to Lindsey for the update.

More on Ben Kweller's Engineer team.  According to an email from Ben's Web people, the Steve Mazur mentioned is a different Steve. Thanks to Troy for clarifying this.

March 25, 2004 (Morning)

OLP's "Innocent" is mentioned on page 18 of a book called "Borrowed Flesh" by Canadian author, Sephera Giron.  Later on in the book, Starseed is also mentioned. Be aware it is a horror book and may not be appropriate for younger readers. Thanks to Stephanie for the info.

According to a couple fans, not many of OLP's older videos have been getting much airplay on Muchmusic. Jessie has set up a forum called "Our Lady Peace on Demand" for fans to discuss this and more. Thanks to Jessie for making us aware of this.

March 24, 2004

In Chart's March issue, Jeremy was quoted a few times in the article "Chart Attacks the Junos:"

1. Under 'Embarassing Juno Moments' he's quoted, along with a few other bands, saying: "How about last year? I woke up soaked in my own sweat- I hope to the sweet lord, it was sweat! - and the last thing I remember was hugging Gil Moore from Triumph. If anyone out there could tell me what happened that evening, I would be very grateful. Who am I kidding!? Gil! Please don't do this to me! I have needs and wants that would benefit the both of us!"

2. The second one is under the question "have you ever been involved in any Juno Award scandals?" and Jeremy answers: "My ex-girlfriend dropped one once, hence the "ex", and it shattered on the inside, so it looks like it's full of precious coloured glass. I say it's a Hall Of Fame Juno. Unless they get too close. Then I have to smack their hand and ask them to leave."

3. And last, various artists were asked "Where do you keep your juno award?" and Jeremy answers: "I like to put them in full view for my ego. One is on a string, in my kitchen, in front of my fridge. Another is on the dash of my slowest car (I mount it on the roof, if there's a lot of traffic). I also had one hollowed out and I fill it three times a day with filtered water for my unquenchable thirst. And I keep the other one taped to my Mom's back." Thanks to Lindsey for sending this to us.

March 22, 2004

On the new Ben Kweller album, Steve Mazur and Ethan Johns are credited for the Engineering.  Does anyone know  if this is the Steve Mazur from OLP?  Thanks to Troy for bringing this to our attention.

March 20, 2004

If you missed Muchmusic's "Much In Your Space," you might want to tune in this Sunday March 21st as the episode featuring OLP will be repeated. Other repeat dates and times can be found here. Thanks to Lainey for the info.

More on Chris Benoit!  Before he won the title, he would always be the first wrestler to enter the ring before his matches, meaning that "Whatever" would be cut off before the first chorus. Now that he is the Champ, he will be entering the ring last and this means more of "Whatever" will be heard. Thanks to David for keeping us informed.

March 16, 2004

Here is what the folks over at Wrestleview are saying about Chris Benoit and his entrance music: "HHH says that one match doesn’t mean that you are the best. He admits that he did tap out but it took 2 men to defeat him last night. HHH says that the target is now on Benoit’s chest. Before he can continue about talking about when the sling comes off and how Benoit won’t be a champ for long, out comes the World Champ (and Canada’s own) Chris Benoit (still the best entrance music). For the full report, click here. Thanks to Tim for passing this along to us.

Read this article about Our Lady Peace. Thanks to Christine for sharing the link with us.

This Berklee College of Music website contains the following information about Steve and his solo performance during graduation, "The show opened with Steve Mazur playing a solo acoustic guitar version of "Think About It," cowritten by Herb Alpert. Trumpeter Rashawn Ross came out and made it a duet until the curtain went up and a stage full of musicians joined in."

Also on the Berklee website is an Alumni Notes section with the following written about Steve, 1997 "Guitarist Steve Mazur of Port Huron, MI, joined the top-selling Canadian modern rock band Our Lady Peace last April. They recently completed a European tour and will tour the United States and Canada this year supporting their fifth CD, Gravity."

Recently MuchMoreMusic aired a show called Listed which featured the 20 Canadian best of the last 20 years.  Included in this list was OLP who came in at #16. They stand out from all the other post-grunge bands in Canada, mainly because of Raine's voice and lyrics, and that they have strong staying power. If you missed it, the show will be re-aired on Saturday January 17 at 12 pm. Thanks to Rachel for the news.

OLP made it on several charts for 2003!  In 89x's Top 89 of 2003, "Sell my Soul" was #8.  On London FM 96's Top 96 of 2003, "Made of Steel" was #42 and "Sell My Soul" was #68. Wow!  Just in from Chart's Reader Poll, OLP cleaned up this year with 4 awards:

Best Canadian Album - Live Album,

Sexiest Male - Raine Maida (again),

"Innocent" came in 3rd for Best Song, and
Raine Maida placed 2nd for his killer hair cut.

According to 2 OLP fans, the new CD is going to be awesome!  They had the opportunity to meet up with Jeremy and listen to 4 songs in their entirety, 2 of these songs, "Not Afraid" and ""Don't Ask Why" were included as clips on the Christmas greeting that was available on ourladypeace.net and the hub.  The other 2 songs,  were brand new songs that they had never heard before however, they did not catch the names of them. These 4 songs are among about 27 that OLP have to choose from for the next CD.  On Wednesday January 7, OLP went back into the studio in L.A. to work on it.  Thanks to Miro and Kruno for sending in the info.
