Drake Hotel, Toronto, Ontario |

After almost 2 years we has the
privilege to see the band again, what more can we ask for
then being added to the limited guestlist to a small
basement club that barely holds XXX people. We arrived
early to meet a group of fellow OLP fans and management to
discuss the band and have some food and drinks. After
the meet-up, we all walked back to the club and are
overjoyed to find out that only about a handful of people
had arrived, so we quickly grabbed our front row spots.
The opener was a decent vocal/acoustic guitar set,
unfortunately the white spot lighting in the club was setup
super-bright behind the stage facing the crowd, so even
after seeing him live, we wouldn't know what he looks like
if he bumped into us due to the blinding spots we are now
seeing. A fellow friend asked politely if they could
dim the lights, only to receive a rude snapping reply.
Then OLP enter the stage, and the first thing Raine says to
this rude employee is turn down the lights, lower, lower,
lower, until it reached a still intruding, but better level.
They started off the show with a signature style
slow-leading intro into one of their upcoming new songs
entitled "Picture". Other than the vocals being hard
to make out at times, it sounded great. This was
probably more to do with us being in the front row, than the
sound setup itself. They then played several other new
songs, mixed in with a few classics here and there. Overall it was great to see the band again, and the small
intimate club was a treat. However, we left somewhat
under-whelmed not so much that the performance wasn't good,
but the
setlist was made up of new songs we didn't know, and
a small selection of singles that were not really our
favourites. We are hoping our experience will grow
better after the new CD is released, and we know the songs
much better. |

Edgefest - Molson Park - Barrie, Ontario |
|
We took the trip
to Barrie to catch Molson Park's last concert ever as the park
has been purchased, and most likely will become a subdivision
of some sort. I guess that is all part of the future and
the neverending urban sprawl. We arrived at about 5:30,
just in time to catch Stereophonics. Unfortunately,
their drummer was not present (not sure why), so they were
stuck with playing an acoustic set. Finger Eleven took
the crowd up 10 notches with their explosive energy.
Then OLP had their turn. They definately stole the show.
Raine's voice was stronger than ever, and the sound mix was
perfect, as you could hear all instruments clearly,
particularly Steve's blazing guitar work. As much as it
is starting to sound cliche, the highlight would have to have
been the crowd rendition of 4am. As many times as we
have heard the crowd sing 4am for OLP, this one was somewhat
louder, and seemed more riviting with all the lighters shining
brightly in the crowd. Raine thanked the crowd for the
energy. Another highlight was their performance of "Wipe
That Smile Off Your Face". One of the few new songs that
have really hooked us immediately. The structure and
lyrics of this song are brilliant. This is sure to be a
hit. Downfall of the show was the constant people
pushing and moving in front of us all through the concert.
Irritating, but to be expected at festivals with the multitude
of idiots more interested in body surfing then watching the
concert. Oh well, as long as we all enjoyed ourselves,
that is what matters. :) |

Civic Centre -
Ottawa, Ontario |
|
Our great
friends Jen and Tom came up for a vacation from Texas again,
so we could enjoy each others company, as well as catch a few
concerts. We also took this opportunity to enjoy the
beautiful City of Ottawa, and it's winter splendor. If
you ever visit, be sure to come in the winter, and skate the
Canal. It was a blast! Anyway, onto the concert.
We were sad to be told at the gate that we had to return our
camera to our car. So unfortunately we have no photos to
share. However, if you watch OLP Exposed you will see
parts of the show we attended (including Raine telling
security to allow a roudy fan to stay). If you look hard
enough, you will see us as well. You can also enjoy the
great photos taken by
other fans who attended the show. The set was a nice
length with 20 songs, and our 3rd row seats were perfect.

Air
Canada Centre - Toronto, Ontario |
|
What is it
with Our Lady Peace, Toronto, and the cold? It seems they
always tour Canada in the winter, and the southern states in
the summer. You would think it would be the other way around?
Anyway, we drove to Toronto to catch the free concert
presented by Best Buy. We set a time to meet various fans at
the rusty towers in front of the venue.
Both to meet and say hi, and to give out some tickets we were
able to get our hands on. We handed out most of the tickets,
then heard that all you needed to do was approach the ticket
booth and ask for tickets. So even though it was apparently
sold out, many people didn't pick them up by the deadline so
there were many left. We had a few seat choices now, so we
entered the arena and checked out all the seats. We didn't
bother watching the opening acts as we are not big fans of any
of them. We chose to use our floor seats as they seemed the
best.
Once Treble Charger left the stage we headed down to our seats
on the floor. We wished they were general admission, but who
are we to complain at a free show. The view was not too bad,
but there were many tall people in front of us, so we figured
we would scope out the empty seats and sneak over to them. We
found a great vantage point near the aisle coincidently near
friends of ours as well as other cc/olp.cc fans. Once the
concert started, the crowd went nuts. Highlights were the
continuously amazing Steve solo during Starseed, and Raine
climbing into the stands during One Man Army. The Lowlights were the idiotic power tripping security
guard that used every chance to flex his power including
dragging young kids down the aisle, and screaming at anyone
that leaves their seat area even by inches. He had a real problem, and we should of really reported
him. Some people take their uniforms a little too seriously.
After the show we met a bunch of fans at the rusty towers and
took a walk to our regular meeting joint, The Fishy Second Cup
(as we've named it). Unfortunately they closed off the upper
section and made it into offices, so we were forced to remain
on the lower level in amongst other people that came from the
concert. We were glad we did as we were able to meet a few
great people and fans.
Overall a great concert. The light show was breathtaking with
the shadows of the band members reflecting on the ceiling, and
the sound was excellent throughout the venue. |

Flickinger Arena at Erie Community College - Buffalo, New York |
|
We drove the QEW
to Buffalo New York to see Our Lady Peace perform at the
Flicklinger Arena at Erie Community College with our friend
Shivon. Even though this concert was sold out, Shivon was a
lucky one managing to win some guestlist entries and
after-show passes. When we arrived there was a line already
building, so we approached the doorman to see how we can find
the guestlist. The doorman said we needed to wait for the
ticket window to open, so we waited patiently until about 15
minutes before the doors were to open. We then panicked as we
were not sure if we would get in with the rush. We worried for
not, as the window opened just as the line started moving, so
we were able to move in with the mob. The strange thing is
that there was not one person we recognized in the line that
are usually attendees to Buffalo area concerts?
We claimed our spot on the left of the stage in front of where
Steve was expected, and waited patiently for the music to
start. The waiting Thrash Music was ridiculously loud. So much
that we had our earplugs in, and had to yell to hear each
other think. This music was cranked between each band, which
was provoking the crowd buy its aggression and volume. Very
bad idea by the venue. The opening act Fingertight was ok.
They tried hard to entertain a blank looking audience, and
could of left out the thank you's after every song. They were
a little too appreciative. Then 30 Seconds to Mars took the
stage. We are fans of this band, and had seen them perform a
few shows already before this. It was a real sin that they
were announced as an opening act well after the concert was
sold out, as they have no support from the audience at all.
People were whining and complaining and not supporting them at
all. Without the connection, the show seemed to be lacking. We
tried to show support, but it was not enough. In the audiences
defence, the band could of reduced the length of their intros.
They seemed to bore the crowd before each song. Long intros
are ok for an audience that is familiar, otherwise they should
be avoided.
Then the moment of truth. Our Lady Peace took the stage. Each
time we see them, they seem to get better. It may be biased,
but we feel the emotion and connection between the members
seem to be growing. The addition of Steve really has brought
this out in the band. You have to see them to understand.
Anyway, the concert was great. The lighting was average, the
sound was lacking due to the venue, but otherwise it was a
great show. The audience was 100% there for Our Lady Peace
although the people in our immediate vicinity were hogging the
bar, without singing, jumping or anything. They kind of
frustrated us as they were obvious fans, but showed no
support. When Somewhere Out There was played the audience
started body surfing their asses off. Obviously the music
video had some influence. Even though we are bothered by body
surfing, it stayed mainly in the centre, without much bother.
The people seemed to be having a great time doing it, so how
can we complain.
After the show ended we headed backstage to a room we were
directed into. In this room was some drinks and treats, as
well as a group of Swedish fans that were flown in for the
show from a contest they won! Very cool. Too bad it wasn't for
a better venue. They seemed like they were not complaining
whatsoever though. The band members started to filter into the
room, and just sat around and chatted with everyone. It was a
very relaxing enjoyable experience. It seemed more like a
bunch of friends vegging than a band and fan meeting. We had
some good laughs as Mike made a few of us mix drinks. He is
very good at this! So not only is he the resident stunt
musician, but the bartender as well. ;) Each member was in a
great mood, and very easy to talk too. Probably the best
conversations we have had with them all at once ever. This
made the night. Thanks Shivon! :) |

John
Labatt Centre - London, Ontario |
|
We took the
trip to London, Ontario with our friends Shivon and Eugene
stopping at our favourite panzerotti place (Easttown) on the
way, thinking we had hours before needing to line up at the
venue. After we stuffed ourselves, and packed half our
meal for the next day, we drove down the road to the new John
Labatt Centre. When we arrived in the area, we were
shocked to see the entire block packed with people already lined up!
We parked and headed to the very back around an entire city
block. However, the line moved quickly and we were glad
as it was starting to get very cold this October night.
We ran in and were also surprised to see the left side of the
stage left pretty well empty. We plotted ourselves
behind one group of people in the second row of the general
admission floors of this new very nice looking venue.
Treble Charger took the stage and did a pretty good job
keeping the fans entertained with their various hits and
onstage humour including fans chugging 2 litre bottles of
ginger ale and even one couple enjoying a lap dance by the man
in the relationship.
Then the moment of truth, the lights dimmed and Our Lady
Peace's large silver logo was unveiled. The crowd was
loud and appreciative and welcomed Canada's finest. The
sound, lights, and performance was one of the best we have
seen by far. Raine's voice was amazing, although he
messed up a few verses here and there, soon after realizing it
with a smile. The interaction between the members of the
band was excellent. One highlight was when Raine climbed
into the stands to sing a few verses of One Man Army with the
ecstatic fans. But the most memorable highlight was when
Raine tugged on Steve with force as Steve hammered his guitar
with equal aggression hitting note after note with perfect
clarity (see ourphotos set16).
To sum it up it was a flawless performance filled with an
equal intensity by the band and the singing fans that can only
be experienced at this magnitude at an Our Lady Peace concert.
After the show we met with Steve and chatted a bit with him and
his Mom who was there spending some time with her son.
She was a very nice lady, and we were proud to have met the
mother of a great person and musician. After show
highlights were fans taking turns clown car cramming into our
little
Mazda to get warm, and most of all the traffic directing
duties of
Shivon, Eugene and
Krossing
Kruno. We have a reflective vest in our trunk from
work, so they took turns putting it on and making fools of
themselves directing vehicles as they passed. Shivon ran
to hide twice when she learned the vehicles she was waving on
were in fact police cars! Thanks for the laughs all! |

Amphitheatre at Station Square - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania |
|
After the
concert in Cleveland, we hung outside the back of the venue to
talk to friends and the band. Jeremy was in one of his
hilarious moods, making us all lose our breathe due to
excessive laughter. Just before they were set to leave,
Jeremy asked if we were attending this concert in Pittsburgh,
we said no as we were on our way home the next day after a
good nights sleep in a nearby hotel. After bending our
arms, and offering to set us up with tickets, we couldn't say
no. So rather than go home, we set out the next morning to
the City of Pittsburgh.
Once we arrived, we were a little exhausted from the long
drive and heat, so we couldn't be bothered to hotel shop for
cheap rooming, so we grabbed a room at the Sheraton opposite
the venue's parking lot. Coincidently, the hotel patron
placed us in a room a few floors up, overlooking the venue.
Couldn't have asked for a better view.
We headed over to the venue to waste a little time, and see if
anyone we knew was around yet. We did in fact see some
people we knew, including our friend Reena. She was just
heading backstage for Soundcheck and invited us with her.
How could we say no? So we followed her back. A
polite gentleman asked if we had passes, just as our good
friend Stace intervened and let him know we were all good.
Thanks Stace! Could this day get any better! We
then grabbed something to eat from the buffet of food and
drink, and were soon after given promo flats, and posters just
before the band came on to perform!
They jammed through a bunch of songs, and while on a break
between songs all but Raine cranked through a bunch of
classics from Ozzy, Kiss, and Black Sabbath. Very cool
stuff! They then joined us on the floor to chat a bit
and get some pics and sign autographs. We had spoken to
Steve the night before for the first time and found him to be
a very personable person, so we approached him as everyone
was leaving and asked what he was doing for the next few hours
leading up to the concert, and if he was interested in joining
us for a bite to eat at one of the Restaurants
near the venue. He said "sure" and after asking a few of
the other members who declined, joined us for a walk to a
local restaurant. Our hotel was on the way there so we
stopped in so that Ash could make a quick phone call to her
work to let them know she was not able to make it to work the
next morning. To make it sound official, Steve made the call
for Ash posing as her father in a convincing polite
father-like voice. Although almost messing up his own
supposed last name which almost messed up the whole ploy.
However, everything worked out in the end, and nobody was the
wiser at her former workplace (she was quitting anyway) :)
We finally head down to the restaurant just adjacent to the
hotel. We sat in a big booth with Steve, Jen and Ashley
and took our sweet time ordering because we had too much to
talk about (turned the waitress away 4-5 times). Once we
finally ordered some food and drinks, and talked about
everything from musical interests, OLP success, our website
and the visitors and friends we have made, and much more, we
then headed outside and took a little walk through a little
mall immediately opposite the restaurant. After a little
more chit chat and realizing it was getting dark and about
time for Steve to return to the venue, we headed outside to be
surprised that was raining buckets! We ran across to the
hotel and were soaked head to toe. Steve approached the
people at the customer service desk of the hotel and asked if
we could get the hotel to drive us all to the venue, even though
it was just across a short parking lot, the rain was so hard
that we would of all been drenched. So we all ran up to
our hotel rooms to grab towels to dry off (OLP coincidently
had a room on top of ours for showering), and once somewhat
dry, Steve called his people at the venue and learned that due
to the hard rain, the opening act was postponed slightly.
So we were told to sit tight until he received a call back.
So we hung in our room a while longer and finally dried off.
Steve then received the phone call he was waiting for so we
headed downstairs to the waiting car. It turned out the
cost was only $10, and if we wanted a stretch limo, it was
waiting out front for us. We obviously didn't decline,
and headed out and jumped into an amazing long white limo.
As the driver started to pull out, we looked out the front
window to realize it stopped raining!! We laughed our
asses off all the way to the other side of the parking lot.
Steve then went backstage as we walked over to the ticket
booth to find the tickets Jeremy had left for us. We
were surprised to learn that not only did we have tickets
waiting, but after-show backstage passes! Unbelievable!
Thanks Jeremy!!! We went into the venue, and took our place on the left side of
the stage (in front of Steve). The place was pretty packed at
this point, with a bunch of drunk fans. We were shocked
to see a brown beer bottle being thrown into the air by a fan
next to us, and then noticed a clear smirnoff bottle fly by in
the other direction. We freaked out, and decided to go to the
back centre. We met up with Stace again as she was doing
some filming at the soundbooth. We then tripped on a
bottle like the ones we saw flying over our heads, and
learned it was plastic mimics of the original glass bottles!
So the people were not as crazy as we thought.
Our Lady Peace then took the stage and pumped out all their
amazing music, and Raine did his usual crazy monkey-man
climbing, this time up a wire with one hand as he held the mic
in the other. The fans loved it. The lighting was
extra cool as they reflected sky-sized shadows of each of the
members of OLP onto the ceiling of the tent. The
performance was great, but due to the fact that we were at the
back, we enjoyed the sound, but didn't have much of a view, so
the intimacy of the concert was not as good as the night
before. However, with all that had happened thus far in
this day, we were not complaining. We then headed
backstage after the show to chat with Steve a little more,
said brief words to the other members as they were all a
little too tired this time for any real conversations.
After everyone left, we found ourselves still backstage
talking to the crew and listening and breathing in the fumes to the engine of the bus
parked next to the fence where we were sitting. We then
left the backstage area to find a bunch of fans, and talked a
little longer until we all decided to head back to the hotel
and call it a night. And boy....was it ever a night!!!
Could we be the luckiest 4 people alive we thought?
Overwhelming. :) |

Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame - Cleveland, Ohio
(aired on MTV Nov 27, 2002) |
|
We were on a
weeks vacation, and our good friend Jen was back in Town for a
vacation from where she now lives and works in San Diego.
We met years back as Our Lady Peace fans, so we figured this
would be a good opportunity to hang out, and check out a
concert in a new city. So we packed our things, and
headed out to Cleveland, Ohio with Jen and her sister Ashley.
The 5 hr drive there was not the best considering our vehicle
has no air conditioning. However, we made it ok, a
little wet and sticky, but at least intact. We met up with
Nardboy of 92Xtreme Radio to have some lunch and talk
music, as he is a huge Our Lady Peace fan like us. After
lunch, and checking into our hotel, we took the walk to the
venue and situated ourselves in the front of the line-up just
behind about 10 other fans who were camped out most of the
day.
After several hours of waiting, and witnessing
several others being let in before all of us in the line
(contest winners we were told), we were let in and ran to
claim a spot in the second row. Considering the fans in
front of us were fairly short, we had a perfect view.
They were nice people too offering us water, and ensuring we
could see. The opening act Audiovent was not bad, but
the sound was terrible as the volume was super loud to a point
you could not hear the singer, also to make things worse, the
speakers were cutting in and out. After Audiovent left
the stage, an MTV rep took the stage to ask us all to sing
along with audio tracks of "Superman's Dead", and "Somewhere
Out There" and act as though we were watching them on stage.
This baffled us all as they were about to come on stage for
real? Why the stupid acting? I guess that's MTV
for you...making sure they have multiple angles of everyone
and everything for the editing of the footage to be aired on
November 27, 2002.
Then the moment of
truth, finally Our Lady Peace (in the flesh) took the stage.
The view was amazing as the entire concert took place in
bright light conditions. They played all their hits,
including Superman's Dead and Somewhere Out There twice each
for the MTV crews. We didn't mind. One irritation
was that the camera men were actually placing the camera
above, below, or even on your face to catch every bad angle of
our faces possible. We are not looking forward to seeing
ourselves on the footage, but it was worth the torture to
catch this great concert.
We then hung out with friends near the bus after the show and
everyone in the band came out and hung for a good hour
chatting and taking pictures with us all. Jeremy was in
one of his extra rambunctious moods running around getting us
all to listen to a voice mail someone left him making moaning,
orgasmic-like sounds! Steve can be seen laughing at this
message in
this photo
(bottom of page) posted in our photos section. All
but Steve ended up eventually heading back on the bus, so we
hung a while longer chatting with Steve. He as an
amazing, personable person, and we were in awe with how down
to earth he really was. We then said our goodbyes and
headed back to the hotel. |
July 11, 2002 (23)
Bayfest, Centennial Park -
Sarnia, Ontario |
|
We got to
Sarnia and discovered that the park was split up into a
drinking side and a non-drinking side. We were lucky enough to
get into the non-drinking side (we thought it might be calmer)
and be front row centre. We watched the bands set up and got a
couple pics of a few of them on stage. Then the first opening
band, Flicker came on and they were ok but not really a band
we are interested in hearing again. Man, were they loud...it
didn't help that the speakers were right in front of us. We
think the crowd got bored because this is when the roughness
began. It was so bad that we were squished up against a fence
and couldn't move. We decided that this would not be a good
way to spend the evening so we wimped out and got the security
to pull us out. We ended up going to the drinking side
and not seeing the 2nd band, Moment of Truth so we really
can't say how they were. We found a spot on the side and
watched OLP from a distance. Their performance was right on as
usual but we would have liked to see more of Steve's guitar
work because we were on the wrong side and there was a camera
man in the way. Raine surprised us during One Man Army and he
went between the fences that separated the two sides and
jumped into the drinking crowd. Good to see him becoming brave
again. After the show, we lucked out and got a
setlist and
were able to get it signed by everyone but Duncan. We also got
a few pictures with them. It was especially nice to have a
lengthy conversation with Raine. Can't wait to see them again,
hopefully at a closer proximity. |

Air Canada Centre - Toronto, Ontario
|
|
The Music Without Borders Benefit concert
was a great success! As usual, Our Lady Peace put on a
great show that brought the majority of the 20,000 capacity
crowd to their feet. The night's highlight would have to
be the finale that involved all artists (Alanis, Choclair,
Barenaked Ladies, Bruce Cockburn and the Tragically Hip)
covering Neil Young's "Keep on Rocking in a Free World"
OLP's setlist was as follows: Naveed, Whatever,
Starseed, Life, Right Behind You, Superman's Dead, Thief,
Clumsy. |

Western Fairgrounds - London, Ontario
|
|
We made it to the
front row and stayed there for 2 opening bands, The Salads and
most of Joydrop. However, the crowd got rough at the end
of Joydrop and continued that way even when no band was on
stage. We decided to keep it safe and leave before
getting ourselves and our camera crushed. So we watched
the show from the side by the big tv screen and that is where
most of our pics from the show came from. Here is the
setlist from last night's show in London: Middle of
Yesterday, Right Behind You, Automatic Flowers, Superman's
Dead, Naveed, Car Crash, Are you Sad?, If you Believe, In
Repair, Is Anybody Home?, Clumsy, One Man Army, Whatever,
Everyone's A Junkie, Life, Encore - 4 am, New untitled song,
The Birdman/Carnival and Starseed. After the show,
Raine, Mike and Duncan were kind enough to come out and talk
to the fans. |

University of Buffalo -
Buffalo, New York
|
|
OLP
played at the U of B in Buffalo, NY and we were lucky enough to attend.
Before the show, the band was kind enough to take time out of their busy
schedule to talk to some street team winners in an intimate meet and
greet. Their performance was great and the crowd did a lot of singing.
During the show, Raine said that his throat was bothering him and he was ready
to go home after the second song but the crowd kept him going. After the
show, we found out that they were having some technical difficulties (ie:
Duncan couldn't hear anything) which we didn't even notice from where we were
sitting/standing. A larger crowd than usual were waiting for the band
after the show. But the band was cool about it, they took time after the
show to chat, sign autographs and take pics with the
fans. |

The Odeon - Cleveland, Ohio
|
|
We
were there and it rocked!!! It was an eventful day for us but worth the
drive. Before the show started, they played an extended version of that
"Jackass like" show and the crowd was getting restless. However, as
soon as the show started, the restlessness wore off. Once again we
started out at the second row in the front section but as the crowd started
getting rowdy, we moved to the back. After the show, we talked to all 5
members of the band. It was really nice to get pics and autographs of
the entire band. Setlist: Middle of Yesterday, Right
Behind You (Mafia), Automatic Flowers, Superman's Dead, Naveed, Car Crash, Are
You Sad?, If You Believe, In Repair, Is Anybody Home?, Clumsy, One Man Army,
The Birdman (with a little of Carnival mixed in with it), Everyone's A Junkie,
Life, encore - 4am, Julia, and Starseed. |
March
25, 2001 (18)
Lyndon State College -
Lyndonville, Vermont |
|
We
drove 9 hours to Vermont to catch OLP's show at Lyndon State College. As
expected, it was a great performance! The security was really strict but
American Hi Fi got the crowd all hyper and the craziness began. But even
though it was a rough crowd and we ended up near the back, we found the crowd
to be very responsive! At the beginning of OLP's performance, we were
watching the intro that Oli created and were amazed to see our banner flash
across the screen. We couldn't believe our eyes....thanks so much to Oli
for including our website. After the show, we decided to wait for the
band in the freezing cold. Luckily we were entertained by three female fans
who were singing a bunch of kid tv show songs to keep warm. It was
really funny and cute because the security guard would fill in the words that
they didn't know. Then, he just started singing the entire song with
them. After a small wait, Jamie came over and talked to the fans.
Unfortunately the rest of the band did not come over and chat. We
completely understand though because it was very, very cold! Setlist: Middle
of Yesterday, Right Behind You, Automatic Flowers, Superman's Dead, Naveed,
Car Crash, Are You Sad?, If You Believe, In Repair, Is Anybody Home?, One Man
Army, The Birdman, Everyone's a Junkie, Life, encore- 4 am, Julia, Starseed. |

The Tralf - Buffalo, New York

Great performance + great crowd = excellent
concert! That's our quick review of the Buffalo show we attended last
night. We must say that it was definitely one of the best shows we have ever
attended. The crowd was so calm and you could tell the true fans were in
attendance as everyone paid more attention to the show rather than the
bodysurfing. It is obvious that Buffalo really like OLP! It was an
awesome show, one of our faves. Meeting all of you OLP fans at the show
helped make the experience even better. It was nice talking to you all.
Unfortunately we didn't get to take any pictures at this particular show but we
did get to talk to a few of the guys afterwards. Here is the
setlist of the
songs they played in Buffalo. |

Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto, Ontario |
|
The
Cross-Canada club tour put together by Our Lady Peace specifically to treat
their fans was a huge success from coast to coast, pleasing fans from all
over. After winning a place on the guestlist through ourladypeace.com, we showed
up to the club early to ensure our spot close to the front. We arrived
to be greeted by a ton of fans and friends. We waited patiently until
the door people started allowing the extra few (300) that showed up to
purchase tickets into the club past us in the line! We were angry and
upset, but eventually after most of the people were in, we were let in to find
our names were not on the guestlist! So we waited as more and more
people passed us in the line. Eventually they found out we were in fact
on the guestlist and let us in. Once inside, our faithful friends saved
us a spot front row centre. We squeezed in to claim our spot. The
band started off with performing most of the songs from "Spiritual
Machines" (see the setlist
here).
As the older, more recognizable songs started, it took us very little time to
realize that it may not be such a good idea standing front row centre as we
were ample targets for body surfers. After a few bruises and a friend's
bloody nose, we requested the security pull us over the barricade. We
then watched the remainder of the show from the back of the club, and on the
balcony. The band calmed down the crowd a bit with a fan sung version of
"4am", and a special John Lennon tribute, "Imagine".
The people of the club seemed to really enjoy OLP's performance, as so did
we. Being spoiled by the previous two shows in more civilized environments,
this concert did not prove to be one of our favourites. Not because of
the bands performance, but because of the door mix-up and the rowdy
crowd. After the concert proved to be a treat, as not only did we win
entrance to the show, but we won press conference passes. We were privileged
enough to sit in with the media for a Q&A session with the entire
band. It was very educational. See
Photos. The night
ended with even more adventure as a normal 45 minute drive turned into 3 hours
due to one of the worst snow storms the area had seen in years. But we
made it! |

The
Turret, Sir
Wilfred Laurier University - Kitchener,
Ontario
|
|
We were lucky enough to have a good
friend invite us as guests to this amazing experience! The
night started off great when we stopped into a Tim Horton's Donuts about 10
minutes from Wilfred Laurier University and were surprised to see Mike and
Jamie in the line-up behind us! We had an interesting conversation,
wished them well at the show, and were on our way. The performance
was even better than the Mohawk experience, although the crowd pushed us a
little harder into the front row barricades. But the bruises were well
worth it. The show ended 2 hours later and we managed to talk a tech
into giving us Raine's setlist. We then lounged around the school for a
while to rest before our drive home. Then as we were going down the back
stairway to the car, we bumped into Mike and Jamie again! Two times in
one night! What Luck! So we had another interesting conversation
about anything and everything, and had our
setlist
signed. |

The
Arnie, Mohawk
College - Hamilton,
Ontario
|
|
We
had the privilege of attending one of the best Our Lady Peace shows we've been
too last night at Mohawk College in
Hamilton. It was a closed show for Students and Alumni only, so we were
asked not to post any info prior to the event. The show lasted for more
than 2 hours and treated the 550 in attendance with a
21
song setlist! |

Molson
Park, Summersault - Barrie,
Ontario
|
|
Well
we arrived late and unfortunately missed Duncan and Jamie in the
Kiss makeup on the Village Stage. However, we did catch OLP's
excellent performance. They really know how to capture an audience.
The setlist was great and included two new songs. One called
"Life" and the other called "Everyone's a Junkie" |

University
of Buffalo, Alumni Arena - Buffalo, New
York |
|
Let's just say that this show was one of the
oddest shows that we have been to. We waited outside in
the heat for what seemed like forever, we were supposed to be
let in by 4pm but ended up not getting in until around 5pm. As
we entered, we were subjected to metal detectors which
was a new experience for us. The majority of the bands were
rap and then OLP were stuck right in the middle. However, the
performance was flawless as usual and we got to talk to 4 of
the guys after the show (see

University
of Waterloo, Federation
Hall - Private Show - Waterloo, Ontario |
|
Our Lady
Peace played a private show at the University of Waterloo's Federation
Hall (19+ on-campus club). The show was a party put on by a video
networking company called Pixstream. The company gave tickets out
to 2nd & 3rd year students in Engineering and Mathematics. We
contacted the company and the school, and were told it was a private event
and that there was no way to get tickets as it was a full house.
However, we couldn't resist. We took the trip to Waterloo and were treated
to tickets by a kind gentleman standing at the front of the venue. They were
strict at the door and did not allow cameras. We did however get a Neck
pass and two free drink tickets each on entry. And after the show we snagged a
Setlist. The set they played was actually a little different than the
setlist.
They did not perform OMA, and blended Carnival into Teardrop.
Thanks to Ryan
and Kevin for the information, the guy who ran around to find a second
ticket for us, and the Band for one of our all time favourite shows.
And a special thanks to Mike for throwing us a bottle of water after noticing
how thirsty we were from all our singing. We needed it! :-)

Well...you can't win them all.
Once again, OLP lost to the Matthew Good Band for Best Group on the Juno's last
night. We were all disappointed that they didn't win any awards, but we
enjoyed the live performance of "Is Anybody Home". |

Air Canada
Centre, World's
A Blister Tour - Toronto, Ontario |
|
The show was AMAZING! We had
the best time of our lives! We were right up front, on Mike's side,
and there was barely any pushing. The highlight of the night for
us was when Raine put the microphone up in front of us to sing during "Teardrop/Hope."
We also enjoyed hanging out after the show, at the Fishy Second Cup with
fellow CC'ers (a few of which have become very good friends of ours - you
know who you are!) |

Much Music Intimate &
Interactive - Toronto, Ontario |
|
Breathtaking!! We were lucky
enough to win tickets to the live taping of Our Lady Peace performing at
Much Music in Toronto. Even though it was a really cold night, many
die-hard fans crowded outside the window to catch a glimpse of the guys.
Luckily we were let inside quickly. We were directed around the stage,
and unfortunately had a view from the back during the live performances.
However, we were front and centre during the interview segments.
The overall experience was excellent! The "scaled" songs were performed
flawlessly, and the crowd sang so loud, that it was hard to hear Raine
at times! That is exactly the atmosphere OLP was hoping for.
Thanks to OLP and all the fans for a great night. |

Blueline Show, Skydome - Toronto, Ontario |
|
The show of
5,000+Blueline winners and 100 fan club guests had its ups and downs,
Ups: 1. Like
usual, OLP put on a flawless show full of the energy and originality that
we have all grown to love. 2. 50
of the Pied Pipers Union members were able to bring a friend, avoid the lengthy line-ups out front, wait in a room (Green Room) before the show
with access to unlimited drinks and treats. 3. We
got to finally meet some PPU fan club members and long time email
correspondents.
Downs: 1. The
outnumbering, idiotic, drunken, bodysurfers were let in before us patient fan club members, which caused a majority of us to either stay in the crowd
and take the bruises (with no opposition from the overlooking Raine), or
retreat to the back of the floor area for a microscopic view of the stage. Suggestion
for General Admission shows like this one: Create a fenced-in Idiot-Pit
at the back of the floor area, for all the people who want to climb all
over each other and ignore the music! 2. Raine's
"promotional" comments on the sponsoring beer company (Labatt), were very
uncharacteristic and made the band appear like a commercial sell-out. Overall, although
we appreciate the fan club member invitation, in comparison to previous
shows we've attended, we would have to place it on the bottom of the list. |

Secret Show, Horseshoe Tavern - Toronto, Ontario |
|
This
Pre-Woodstock
show was one of three secret shows that OLP performed under the name
"BellyFlop
Communists" They played 9 new songs and introduced their new "stunt
musician" Jamie Edwards. Overall it was a great experience.
We were so close that we could have reached out and strummed Mike's
guitar. One downfall was that we were allowed to take pictures (without
a flash) but we couldn't turn our flash off so we decided to cover it with
black tape. Unfortunately, only one of our pictures turned out . :-(
Oh well...the closeness to the band in the venue, the awesome music and
Mike's kindness (talking to us for an hour and a half after the show) made
for a perfect night! Thanks guys!!! |

Summersault, Molson Park - Barrie, Ontario |
|
We won tickets
from 102.1 The Edge. Same atmosphere as Edgefest but a little worse
as it rained, OLP's sound was experiencing occasional feedback (which
didn't really bother us), and Raine was frustrated and left out challenging
parts of songs (i.e. Car Crash). However, the whole crowd supported
him by singing 4am entirely. We found this fan support breath-taking.
Then storm clouds threatened, forcing OLP to cut their performance short
to allow Crystal Method to play. We left not feeling OLP satisfied, aching
for more. |

Clumsy Tour, Thompson Arena - London |
|
We purchased
the tickets thinking that it would be a smaller venue then Copps (not expecting
to win). However, all the "Raine Lovers" charged the stage with more
ferocity than the bodysurfers of the festivals which forced us to distance
ourselves from the show once more. This resulted in a less personal experience
than we had hoped but still a great show. |

Clumsy Tour, Copps Coliseum - Hamilton |

We won tickets
again from 97.7 outside Copps, after the sound check and to make things
even better, they were FRONT ROW CENTRE!!! It was like seeing them
in a small venue with all the large venue special effects. AMAZING! |

Edgefest, Molson Park - Barrie, Ontario |
|
OLP headlined
this annual event. Great show, however, having to keep a distance
from bodysurfers kind of ruins the experience. Also, after an entire day
of music, your energy level decreases. |

Transparent Humans Radio Show
Opera House - Toronto, Ontario |
|
We
won the tickets from 97.7 Htz Fm. This was an amazing show which
made us become the true fans we are today! There is nothing like
seeing OLP in a small venue. It was a private show, open to fan club
winners and radio contest winners only. |
